Additive Layer Manufacturing

Selective Laser Melting (SLM) is an Additive Manufacturing process that uses a high-energy laser for the fabrication of metallic or polymeric components, allowing the production of parts in one step, with a minimum of geometrical constraints and without the need for subsequent machining.

The SLM system is fed from a three-dimensional CAD model of the target part. Manufacture begins with the deposition of powder layers with a thickness between 50 and 100 µm. In each layer, the laser selectively fuses the cross section corresponding to the CAD model, completing layer by layer all sections of the 3D model.
